Acteron Corporation has developed a series of unique,
pore-free electroless coatings utilizing state-of-the-art
enhancements including ultrasound and pulse plating to solve
the most critical plating applications. These coatings
include an optional protective chromate overcoat for
selected applications.
Why OptiNickel (tm)
?
- Ultra Corrosion Protection - Over 1000 hours
salt spray resistance. Strongly resistant to harsh
chemical environments.
- Economical - Lower coating thicknesses are
required to obtain specified corrosion resistance. The
lower thickness also allows easier tolerancing of
threads and critical dimensions which reduces machining
and plating costs.
- Extreme Hardness - Heat treatable up to
Rockwell C68 with wear resistance equivalent to hard
chromium.
- Pore-free - And particle-free, for high-end
disc drives and optical surfaces.
- Excellent Uniformity - And consistency of
deposit.
- Other Attributes - For soldering, brazing,
welding. Food approved, excellent lubricity for mold
release, exceptional ductility.
Special Substrate
- Opti-Bond(tm) - A unique process which provides
maximum adhesion without chemical etch of the substrate.
- Difficult to Plate Metals - All aluminum alloys
and castings; invar, kovar, monel, stainless steels;
titanium, nitinol, beryllium, molybdenum, thermkon,
tungsten; mixed metal assemblies and rare earth magnets.
- OptiNickel(tm) on Non-Metallics - We are able
to plate complex geometries on virtually any material
including ceramics, plastics, glass and silicon.
Applications
- Disc Drives - Non-magnetic, particle-free,
pore-free, and exceeding 168 hours of humidity testing,
even on porous ductile iron or aluminum castings.
- Precision Diamond Turning - Precise control of
phosphorous content, hardness and process variables to
achieve a deposit that is free of inclusions, pits or
protrusions. OptiNickel(tm) has outstanding lubricity
which creates uniform chip formation and extends tool
life. When applied over our OptiBond(tm) process,
OotiNickel actually improves the surface roughness (Ra).
- Optics Applications - Used a highly corrosion
resistant undercoat prior to Acteron's exclusive
OptiGold or OptiRhodium highly reflective coatings.
OptiNickel's pore-free surface is PDT machinable and can
be optically polished to less than 1 angstrom RMS.
- Corrosion Resistance - Used in semiconductor
process environments and other specific harsh chemical
environments.
- Wear and Abrasion Resistant Surfaces - Lubrous
and heat treatable to Rockwell C68. Excellent for mold
release applications.
- Electronic Applications - Solderable and
aluminum wire bondable. Best diffusion barrier
undercoating for precious metal plating.
