Acteron has developed a unique process for the
electrodeposition of rhodium. OptiRhodium(tm) is a major
breakthrough in characteristics and applications of rhodium
coatings. It eliminates problems of ductility, stress
cracking, porosity and adhesion traditionally associated
with rhodium deposits.
Advantages
- Wear Resistance Greater wear resistance than
conventional rhodium due to the OptiRhodium(tm) refined
grain structure. Hardness and wear resistance far exceed
hard gold.
- Corrosion Resistance Highly inert pore-free
coatings provide extreme corrosion resistance and are
resistant to most process environments including
fluoride, chloride, nitrate, sulfate and phosphate
exposures. Superb Diffusion Barrier - The strongest
barrier available due to its dense, pore-free structure
and inherent low metallic diffusion properties. Thin
underplate coatings of OptiRhodium(tm) can prevent
substrate diffusion through gold outer layers even with
prolonged exposure at highly elevated temperatures.
- Excellent Ductility Even at high coating
thickness due to our proprietary low deposit stress
process.
- Low Resistivity 4.5 micro-ohm-cm makes
OptiRhodium(tm) excellent for electrical contacts and
other electrical applications.
- Optimum Reflectivity Our proprietary refined
grain structure and uniformity of deposit provide
optimum reflectivity.
- Enhanced Adhesion Substrate and underplate bond
is excellent due to innovative OptiBond(tm) non-etching
activation processes.
- Thermal Stability Highly resistant to chemical
oxidation. Melting point exceeding 1950†C.
Applications
- Highly Corrosive Environments
- Electrical Connectors
- Reflectors
- Spring Finger Contacts
- Non-Magnetic Applications Ceramic Packages
Quality
Control
- Stress electronically measured for bi-axial and
linear stress.
- Reflectivity measured in-house by our Beckman
infrared sectrophotometer.
- Purity Control innovative processes for
purification of the rhodium plating solution resulting
in exceptionally pure, ductile and non-magnetic
deposits.
Enhanced Value
- OptiRhodium(tm) can provide higher performance
with thinner deposits than conventional rhodium or gold,
thereby reducing costs.
